What is somatic therapy? 

Somatic therapy aims to treat mental and emotional health concerns, even PTSD, through the connection of body and mind. This approach is effective in helping to release stress, tension, and trauma through the body. 

Rather than a top-down approach working through the mind to effect change in the body, somatic therapy is flipped the other way. Somatic practices centre on the body, and set up strong connections between body and mind (or within the 'body-mind'). 

Somatic Experiencing is a term coined by Dr Peter Levine, but the practices used in somatic therapies span centuries of healing practices used in cultures all over the world. 

Unlike standard mental health therapy, such as, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which focuses predominantly on the mind, somatic sessions often includes body-oriented modalities such as movement, breathwork, and meditation to support healing in both the mind and the body. Somatic therapy sessions also include talk therapy and mind-body exercises. 

These sessions are proven to assist in the  treatment of grey-area or non-specific energy or health concerns, unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and emotions arising from traumatic events.
